Standards & Skills Covered

In the 3rd-grade math course, students explore a wide range of mathematical concepts to build a strong foundation in arithmetic and data analysis. They delve into multiplication and division, mastering skills with 3- and 4-digit numbers, including division with remainders. Place value understanding extends to the 1000s and 10000s, improving their ability to work with large numbers. Students tackle multi-step problems, honing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The course also includes interpreting charts and data, enabling them to draw meaningful insights from graphical representations. Furthermore, students learn to compare fractions and multiply with fractions, gaining proficiency in working with fractions as part of their numerical toolkit.

  • Students learn the fundamentals of multiplication and division, including the properties of operations and the relationship between the two operations. They practice solving multiplication and division problems with single and multi-digit numbers, which lays the groundwork for more advanced concepts later on.

  • This section focuses on understanding the place value system in larger numbers, up to the thousands and ten thousands. Students grasp the significance of each digit's position in a number, which helps them manipulate and compare larger values with ease.

  • In this section, students tackle complex word problems that involve multiple operations. They develop their analytical skills by breaking down the problems into manageable steps and using appropriate mathematical strategies to arrive at solutions.

  • Students work with various types of graphs and charts, such as bar graphs, line graphs, and pictographs. They learn to interpret the data represented in these visual forms and draw conclusions, making connections between the information and real-world situations.

  • Building on their foundational multiplication and division skills, students progress to solving problems with larger numbers. They gain confidence in handling multi-digit multiplication and division, which are essential skills in more advanced mathematics.

  • Students master division with remainders, understanding the concept and learning how to interpret remainders in various contexts. They apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios, reinforcing the relevance of division in everyday life.

  • This section delves into comparing fractions, exploring concepts like common denominators and different strategies for comparing fractions of various sizes. Students develop a deeper understanding of fractions' relative values.

  • Students extend their understanding of fractions to multiplication. They learn to multiply fractions by whole numbers and other fractions, grasping the concept of multiplying parts of quantities.
